The May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture was held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery with a reception hosted by the Ho Chunk Nation featuring Deborah Reese.
The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that the 2019 May Hill Arbuthnot Committee selected the University of Wisconsin at Madison as the host site for the 2019 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture featuring advocate and educator Debbie Reese, PhD. Three University of Wisconsin at Madison units combined and collaborated in this hosting effort: the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC), the School of Information (the ISchool), and the School of Education. The lecture was held in the spring of 2019.
Kathleen T. Horning, Director of the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) at the University of Wisconsin Madison observed: “In our own diversity work, Debbie Reese’s criticism has been so important in helping us evaluate accurate and authentic Native literature that we are thrilled with the honor of hosting her lecture. We look forward to making certain that her Arbuthnot Lecture reaches a wide audience of teachers and librarians here in Wisconsin and beyond.”
